Children Can Learn To Write With These 6 Steps

Teaching children to write is crucial in today's world. Email and websites are just a few of the ways we communicate today. Learning to write well takes practice and diligence and is only learned by doing it. Here are 6 ideas for you to create a writing environment for your children.

1. Inspiration. First you need to inspire your children with a desire to write. You can show them old letters. If you keep a journal then you can show them entries you have made in the past. This really gets their creative juices flowing.

2. Article writing competition. You can challenge your children to write a 400 word article on any subject they choose. You can then read the articles together and collectively pick the best one. You can then give an appropriate reward but the purpose is to get them to want to write.

3. Blog? Blogs are a very popular method for sharing ideas and happenings with friends, family and the internet community. Your children could help with the blog and you can even make money from it. This will give your children a big incentive to write when they realize there is a way to make money.

4. Give your children a notebook. A notebook is a necessity for any good writer so they can quickly jot down ideas as they come. They can also start composing stories in their notebooks that can later be transferred to the computer.

5. Teach your children to write thank you notes. You can buy some andquot;thank you noteandquot; stock and then get your kids to thank those who have given them gifts with a note. As a tax accountant I get thank you notes from my clients and it means worlds. I can imagine it is the same for you and others.

6. Make letter writing a habit. How many friends and family have you lost contact with over the years? Start a letter writing campaign in your family and set letter writing goals. Your family can send letters to each other at first complete with address, envelope, and a stamp.

Teaching children to write when there are so many other activities can be challenging. First you need to inspire your children by showing them how fun writing can be. Next you can teach your kids fun activities like thank you notes, blogs and writing letters that make writing exciting.
