Munnar is a hill station in the Indian state of Kerala. It is pronounced andquot;Moon-aarandquot; meaning andquot;Three riversandquot; in Tamil and Malayalam. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India. The tea plantations and holiday facilities make this a popular hill station.

Nestled in the Western Ghats, Munnar with the gorgeous beauty of the nature is conveniently close to many of great attractions. Bird Sanctuaries, Arch Dam, Enchanting hills and much more.

Itandrsquo;s a must see destination for all travelers.

Following are the main attractions of Munnar:

Devikulam :7 km away from Munnar, Devikulam gives a cut-off-the world experience in dark and deep woods. The Sita Devi Lake here is an ideal picnic spot with beautiful surroundings.

Anayirangal :Tata Tea plantations and tall tree forests surround Anayirangal Dam that is 22 km away from Munnar.

Eravikulam National Park :Less than 20kms north of Munnar, Eravikulam that is a declared as National Park 1978 is abode of Nilgiri Thar, an endangered species.

Top Station:Situated at 2200 m from sea level, this peak offers panoramic views of valley and neighboring state Tamil Nadu.

Mattupetti Dam: 10km from Munnar, this popular picnic spot offers activities like boating and horse riding and is a great place to spend the day especially if you are visiting with children.

Mattupetti Indo-Swiss Farm: Also know as cattle village, Tamil migrant laborers had once upon a time reared cattle here. The cool climate and abundance of fodder made it the ideal location for the Indo-Swiss dairy farm

Echo Point: Every loud call made from a spot on the lake embankment is returned manifold by the echo from the surrounding hills.

Anamudi Peak inside Eravikulam National Park: The highest peak south of the Himalayas. The slopes of the hills abound in all kinds of rare flora and fauna. Other rare species of fauna found here are the Nilgiri Langur, the lion-tailed macaque, leopards, tigers, etc.

Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary: This sanctuary is located 20km from Kothamangalam on the road between Ernakulam and Munnar. There are basic and mid-range hotels in Kothamangalam and an Inspection Bungalow in Boothathankettu.

Marayoor:- Itandrsquo;s around 40km from Munnar. There is a sandalwood factory of the Forest Department of Kerala and a children's park extending across one hectare of land under the canopy of a single Banyan tree, all of which attract tourists in large numbers.

Rock Climbing and Rappelling - Munnar has a steep rock face about 100ft.

The Christ Church:- The exteriors have worn out with time though the charming interiors still have a very nice ambience. It was consecrated way back in 1910 and still has 14 original rows of pews. The first Catholic Church in the High Ranges was Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

How to reach Munnar:

Munnar is about 4.5 hours from Kochi. The place Kothamangalam is on the way and is 80 km down from Munnar. Between Kothamangalam and Adimali, you can experience a cool drive through a natural forest. You can see many refreshing waterfalls. Once you reach Adimali, Munnar an hour away. The view is extremely beautiful during the early mornings.

Nearest Airport: Madurai (Tamil Nadu) 140 Km away, Cochin International Airport 190 Km away.

Nearest Railway Station: Teni (Tamil Nadu) 60 km Away. Ernakulam 200 km away

Munnar can also be reached from Madurai and Pollachi. The drive to Munnar involves about 2 hours on the ghat section. There are 17 hair pin bends and traversing them can make you feel nauseated. Munnar is about 150km from Coimbatore. Coimbatore-Munnar route is a very scenic route.
