Enjoy the Thrill of Florida's Best Roller Coasters
Kraken ? Sea World
While Shamu may be the star of Sea World, the roller coaster dubbed Kraken is certainly a close second. Kraken was named for the famous sea monster of Greek and Norwegian mythology, and it lives up to its monstrous reputation. Kraken is unique for many things, but the most striking is its floorless design. Kraken first made its debut back in June of 2000, and it remains one of the top attractions in the Florida area.
Kraken differs from other floorless coasters in the design of the seats. While traditional floorless coasters have seats which are suspended from the track, Kraken instead provides a pedestal style seat, allowing riders to sit high above the track, providing for a thrilling and unforgettable ride.
The roller coaster named for the comic book superhero is renowned the world over for its many twists and turns, and it remains a favorite of roller coaster enthusiasts around the country and around the world. This fast ride starts out almost immediately, with no slow steady climb up the first hill. Instead riders are catapulted from zero to 40 miles per hour in a mere two seconds, making the first part of the ride as thrilling as what follows. Following this exciting start, riders are treated to a full seven inversions along the track. Before the ride is over visitors to Islands of Adventure will enjoy submerged tunnels filled with mist, twists, turns and of course incredible dips and heart pounding excitement.
The Kumba roller coaster is one of the highlights of Busch Gardens, transporting riders a full 14 stories into the air before taking a heart stopping 135 foot dive down to the ground. After this initial drop, Kumba travels over the top of the vertical loop, before entering a series of dive loops and speeding through a trench. Riders are also treated to an exiting zero G roll, where they experience negative G forces, all while spiraling through an exciting series of twists and turns. No matter what your taste in roller coasters, Kumba is a ride visitors will not soon forget.
While the other coasters on this list are out to thrill, the fabulous little Triple Hurricane is a ride the whole family can enjoy. This great wooden coaster harkens back to the glory days of the theme park, and it offers just enough thrills for roller coaster enthusiasts, while being tame enough for all but the most timid theme park visitors.
The Triple Hurricane has a top speed of just 32 mph, and a modest height restriction of 36?, making it a perfect choice for the kids. The ride stands 40 feet tall, and lasts just under a minute. Those looking for a tame coaster after a day full of thrills should definitely give this hurricane a spin.
