Wheeled Luggage: A Boon for the Frequent Traveler

Article Written By: lutherdavies

Add Your Picture Travel luggage has covered a long way from heavy, unwieldy trunks to convenient rolling bags that look smart and don t result in aches at different places every time you have to transport them from point to point.

Just imagine yourself carrying one of those old time trunks even as you are running to catch a flight or train - the thought itself is enough to tire you out, isn t it? Now imagine stepping out of a cab, pulling out the retractable handle of your rolling suitcase, and dragging it comfortably to the check-in point – sounds luxurious in comparison, doesn t it? Yes, ease of transport is one of the biggest advantages of a rolling suitcase or a trolley case as it is sometimes referred to.

But that's not the only benefit of wheeled luggage. Convenient as it is to transport a wheeled bag, it is also a lot more comfortable and stress free. Wheeled luggage reduces strain on your shoulders and back when you are transporting it between terminals and destinations.

Another advantage of a rolling suitcase is that it facilitates faster mobility. If you're carrying a heavy backpack, lifting a bulky duffle, or handling a cumbersome suitcase, you will probably need to take a few breaks to catch your breath. Not so with a bag that s equipped with a smooth set of wheels and glides across the floor without any effort.

Anyone who has a reasonable amount of experience of darting in and out of airports or sub stations knows that at times you have to do multiple things at the exact same moment – take out change from your wallet for the pass, look for ID and tickets to show the questioning airline staffer, answer your incessantly ringing cellular phone. A rolling bag makes it easier to multitask as it requires minimal handling itself.

Now that we have established that wheeled bags are indeed a boon to the globe trotter and the compulsive holidaymaker alike, there are some guidelines to choosing large rolling luggage. Simple things you can do to make sure you come home with a perfect wheeled bag include:

Test the smoothness of the wheels before you buy a suitcase. Make sure that the suitcase glides effortlessly on its wheels and doesn't keep tipping.

Ensure the wheels are not made from cheap plastic because that would put you in danger of handling a suitcase left with one or no wheels (if you re really unlucky) sooner than you think.

Check to see if the wheels have a large diameter. Bigger sized wheels are sturdier and more durable.

The wheels should be inset into the bag s frame as exposed wheels can break off easily on uneven or rough terrain.

Lastly, make sure the retractable or telescopic handle is smooth and locks in place for convenient transport.

If it's a four-wheeled luggage, make sure the wheels turn 360 degree.

Once you're satisfied that you have picked the right wheeled luggage, allow your new travel buddy to take you on a "roll(er) coaster" of a vacation!
