The 47th Street Business Improvement District which operates the Diamond District is a non for profit organization the purpose of which is to improve the economy of New York City. Most of the retailers at the Diamond District carry out their businesses through jewelry exchange office. Only a few retailers have their own stores. There are around 25 jewelry exchange offices and 100 merchants operate through them. If you are interested in selling some jewelry items, you can do that at the jewelry exchange. If you are a good negotiator, expect a good price for your jewelry.

Almost 99% of the diamonds imported in the US are bought by the New Yorkers. Approximately 2600 merchants operate their business in the Diamond District which makes it one of the busiest markets in the world.

As mentioned earlier, the Diamond District is run by the 47th Street Business Improvement District the purpose of which is to keep the it safe and secure place to shop.

47th Street BID has installed 19 street lights and four diamond pylons at the four corners of the District. They also created a website for the Diamond District (www.diamondistrict.org) which provides all the basic information about the District including History, buying tips, and list of the jewelry stores.

If you are a diamond jewelry fan, you should visit the Diamond District where you can find all types of jewelry items. The prices are cheap and reasonable. With over 2600 merchants operating there, it is the largest diamond market in the US.

The best way to get an item on best price is to survey the district before making any purchase. All merchants may have different prices for the same items. So, it will help you compare the prices and select the best one. Also you should not consider only price but other features of the jewelry as well. Because some discounted items have shorter span of life and you might lose the money after few months.
