Best Options for Ski Resort Fine Dining

The ski resorts in Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado have been competing over the past twenty years to build the perfect mountain vacation getaway. The ski trip is no longer the same experience it was in the 80s when accommodations of marginal quality were considered the standard.

Ski resorts have grown the overall size and quality of their lodges, increased levels of service, and focused on the quality of their restaurants and shopping. Ski Magazine readers consistently rank Vail in Vail, Colorado and Deer Valley in Park City, UT as the number 1 and number 2 resorts in the U.S.A. and Canada. Vail Resort held the number 1 position in 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006. Deer Valley Resort won the honors in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

Deer Valley focuses on the quality of its superbly groomed trails, on mountain services, and on mountain dining to retain its #1 ranking. The resort prides itself on its award winning lunch menu as well as its fine dining restaurants open every evening during the ski season. The restaurants are located in Deer Valley Resorts elegant ski lodges.

Selections at Deer Valleys three fine dining restaurants include European and continental fare at Mariposa, fresh seafood at the Seafood Buffet, and Swiss alpine selections at Fireside Dining. Mariposa consistently receives top ratings with the Seafood Buffet and Fireside Dining not far behind.

The town of Park City has followed suit by increasing the amount of luxury accommodations, fine dining, and shopping options. The expansion over the previous ten years has been very dramatic with literally hundreds of new luxury accommodations gradually replacing the more traditional ski vacation accommodations.

As a result of this recent transition towards a more discerning visitor, Deer Valley and Park City restaurants have responded by cultivating an ever improving dining experience. Zagat, Michelin, Mobile, and AAA rate several restaurants close to Deer Valley Resort as top choices within their widely read travel guides.

Although there are many excellent Deer Valley restaurants, my favorite choice is the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant which is tucked away in the Austrian inspired Goldener Hirsch Inn. The Stein Eriksen Lodge has arguably one of the top restaurants in the U.S. with its Glitretind Restaurant. The Glitretind is also famous for its daily Skiers Lunch Buffet during the ski season.

No matter what your personal preference, Deer Valley certainly lives up to its reputation as a top ski destination in North America. There are now many unique dining options to compliment the fabulous skiing and scenery. Its definitely worth a closer look.
