Hotel Cipriani, Venice, Italy – This beautified and elegant Venice hotel is named after the famous Cipriani family who opened in 1958. It is famous for the unusual amount of expense and the decadence it is decorated in. It is housed on the beautiful island of Venice in Italy. A night at the Hotel Cipriani costs thousands of Euro s. The famous Bellini cocktail was drank by Ernest Hemmingway at the hotel where it was invented.

Raffles Hotel, Singapore City, Singapore – This hotel is unusual in that it is an aging building in the midst of the very modern city of Singapore. The Singapore Sling cocktail made from Gin, was invented here in the Long Bar.

The Ice Hotel - The first ice hotel was built in Northern Norway, and now several more are now been built in Sweden and Canada. The hotels melt in spring and are rebuilt when things start to freeze again in winter. The first ice hotel was carved out of a glacier nearly twenty years ago. Guests sleep on ice beds with reindeer fur as the bed clothes. It still must be freezing though.

Tree house Hotels - There are many tree house hotels, mainly in places where visitors want to get amongst nature or wildlife. There are tree houses in Kerala in India, Costa Rica and African Safari destinations, and one even in Southern France. Tree house hotels tend to be a strangely expensive experience as they are decorated quite extravagantly in general and aimed towards they higher end of the tourist market.

Old Airplane Hotel - There are several crashed airplane hotels spookily enough. One disused airplane is in the depths of the South American rainforest, the other in the Soth of France. The image may conjure that of a rusty old wreck complete with skeleton pilot, but in reality both have been refurbished to a very high standard, to match the $300 plus US dollar per night price tag.

Old Bunker Hotel - Several old military bunker hotels are in operation across Europe. Ex-nuclear bunker accommodation is available in Switzerland and Albania for a somewhat odd, but certainly safe sleeping option. But one in particular stands out; it is a disused Government naval bunker. A man-made island bunker in the Solent channel, in England, and it rents for about £25000 per week.

Under the sea hotel - The under the sea hotel in Florida is a wonderful spot for tropical fish enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby. Guests have to scuba dive to access the hotel that can then be slept in without the need for oxygen. There were plans for one to be built in Dubai, but the construction of this Persian Gulf odyssey was cancelled in 2004.

Under a lake hotel - A Scandinavian revelation, the Norwegians have built an underwater hotel in a lake incorporating the natural beauty of it s countryside with an unusual luxury for daring tourists. Perfect for a dip after a long Swedish sauna the Utter Inn in Lake Malaren is accessed by a lift from the roof of the hotel in the middle of the lake.
