-- Stornoway Bed and Breakfast Guest House
The town of Stornoway is a popular place in which to stay when visiting the Isle of Lewis. The Isle of Lewis is the largest, and most inhabited, island in the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles of Scotland. Situated off the west coast the Isle of Lewis is, along it's west coast, continually shaped by the powerful waves of the North Atlantic Ocean which has helped to create one of the most outstandingly picturesque remote places in Great Britain. Stornoway is on the more sheltered east side of the island where you will find Stornoway guest house accommodation the most economical and most practical way to stay.
While most of the Isle of Lewis is little more that rather barren looking moorland the most incredible scenery can be found along the west coast of the island. At the very south west of the island are some of the most amazing beaches to be found in the whole of the UK, and possibly Europe. More often than not the wonderful stretches of silvery golden shell sand beaches are deserted except for sheep and other, more interesting, wildlife, So, if your chosen Stornoway guest house is right in the center of town you can easily escape to your own, almost private, paradise beach, whenever the mood takes you.
Stornoway is dominated by it's busy little harbor which has a small, but very active, fishing fleet. Nowhere near as busy as it was during the hayday of the herring fishing boom of the late nineteenth/early twentieth centuries, Stornoway is still very much associated with fishing and the atmosphere comes alive when one, or two, of the larger vessels arrive in the harbor.
Across the harbor to the other side can be seen Lews Castle which is surrounded by the most incredible grounds that are well worth an hour or two of your time. If you are staying in a Stornoway guest house it will be unlikely that you will be any great distance from the castle grounds. If you can find the time it is strongly advised that you take the time to wander around the grounds which have some really interesting aspects such as the Creed, a small but very pretty river.
Obviously, when choosing which accommodation you would like to stay in, you choice is dictated by your own personal preferences. If you like to be close to the action with amenities close to hand and do not mind plenty of people around then staying in a Stornoway guest house will be perfect for you. However if you prefer a more sedate experience and do not like crowds then I suggest that a more rural location would be best. We shall suggest two guest houses, one in the town and one just outside.
If you are looking for a quiet location with gorgeous sea views and countryside then the luxurious Holm View Guest house is for you. If you are lucky you will have the pleasure of enjoying a Hebridean sunset in a most wonderful setting able to return to the most comfortable accommodation to be found in a guest house on Lewis. All this and Holm View is only a few minutes drive of the town center of Stornoway.
In stark contrast to Holm View Guest House the Thorlee Guest House is right in the very center of Stornoway. In fact it is as central as you can get and this means that, virtually, everything is within a minute or two's walk. Just across the road is the sea but, more importantly, this is where you will find the ferry terminal and bus station. Furthermore the Thorlee is excellently placed to enjoy the town's nightlife.
If you choose to stay in a Stornoway guest house, or you stay bed and breakfast in a local hotel or in a rural area, you will experience some of the friendliest, and warmest receptions. The Outer Hebrides/Western Isles of Scotland are famed for their hospitality which is always first class. It is so great that you will, sometime soon, be planning a further vacation in the Hebrides.
