The waterfall was beside a former quarrying site for rocks. These rocks are used to build the nearby Little Switzerland Tunnel. The hiking trail towards the Grassy Creek Falls was once the main road going to Spruce Pine. Since the road is not yet used and is completely abandoned, it now serves as a half mile downhill hiking road. You may want to prepare yourself for some river crossing adventures if you want to experience nature trekking in this adventurous hiking site.
Aside from the attractive sights of Little Switzerland, you may also be amazed by other unusual places such as the Christmas Tree Farm. The local residents that handle this business offer wholesale and retail of the Christmas Trees. This is very much suitable in picking the appropriate Christmas tree for your home.
