Fire accidents in 1808 and 1857 gave rise to the current building of the theatre in the same site. The first police station in London was constructed in this street. The street houses a Magistrates court. The square in the center of the district is called The Covent Garden Square or The Piazza. There are plenty of stalls in this open air market. You can catch some of the world s most famous street entertainers here. Covent Garden is the only area that is licensed for outdoor entertainment. Covent Garden Market was once just a market with fruits, vegetables and flowers. Goods were brought to the market in boats going up the Thames River. Later, the market was developed and market halls were opened and the market now has a wide array of shops for all exotic collections. If you want to shop fashion, jewelry, beauty products, traditional crafts, antiques and trinkets, then you can head to this market. There is nothing left out in shopping here, do not miss it! London s oldest theatre The Theatre Royal is located there. The current Theatre is a Grade 1 building and has hosted several shows and events. Shows are usually run from 10.30 am to 7.00 pm. The London Transport Museum displays 80 road and rail vehicles to represent public transportation in and around the city. 60 out of the 80 collections are kept at the London Transport Museum in Acton. There is only one bus route to the district. But, several routes run close to the district. If you want to enjoy shopping at your convenience, it would be better to travel in private taxis. Bear in mind, you will not have public transportation on Christmas Day and limited transportation on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
