The balcony of Buckingham Palace is one of the most famous in the world when the royalties make their presence are made known. The largest room in the Palace is the Ballroom, where Investitures and State banquets take place today. It is 36.6m long, 18m wide and 13.5m high. It was opened in 1856 with a ball to celebrate the end of the Crimean War. This would definitely spice up your Europe holiday vacation. The London Eye (Millennium Wheel), located on the bank of the River Thames near Waterloo Station, is a sight that is worth your time. It is the biggest observation wheel in the world. This should be a part of your Europe holiday itinerary. The Eye has been the venue of Londonandrsquo;s New Year celebrations, with a 10-minute fireworks display linking it to the wheel itself. Next is the Trafalgar Square, which was built after the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The man responsible for the victory was Admiral Horatio Nelson whose statue tower above the square from 167 feet above it. At the base of the column are the well-known Landseer lions. Trafalgar Square is a popular venue for political rallies as well as rallies of pigeons that constantly flock the square. Lastly, the Tower of London, which overlooks the river at the eastern boundary of the old city walls, is by far one of the most famed and well-preserved historical building in the world. This edifice has been a place of imprisonment (particularly for the nobility or royal prisoners), execution, royal residence, an armory, mint, observatory and a safe deposit box for the Crown Jewels. Among the jewels are the andldquo;Anointing Spoonandrdquo;, and the Imperial State Crown, adorned with 317-carat Indian diamond called the andldquo;Kohinoorandrdquo;, a sapphire from a ring said to have been taken from Edward the Confessor, and assorted emeralds, rubies and pearls.
