A Sporting Trip to London

London is a must visit for any and every tourist. Be it as a culture capital or as a sport enthusiast the city has something in store for all and sundry. If you're planning a trip to Wimbledon, it is necessary to be prepared for all eventualities, particularly concerning the weather, and take sun hats, high SPF sun cream, rain coats and umbrellas just in case, and it's not every year that Sir Cliff Richard appears on court to entertain the masses, so maybe a good book or an excellent conversationalist is also a must-have courtside accessory. It is also necessary to make sure that everything is booked well in advance of the tournament to avoid disappointment or inconvenient accommodation arrangements. There are, of course, many hotels and hostels in and around the Wimbledon area but these are likely to get booked up quickly so check out all the options online a few months before you go to get the best deals. For cheaper accommodation, lastminute.com offers information about a wide range of accommodation in the area. A little outside of England's famous capital city, is situated a small suburb, quiet and unimposing most of the year round and home to one of Britain's best loved TV series, 'The Wombles', but Wimbledon really shines during the Grand Slam tennis tournament which takes place on its courts annually in July.

Wimbledon tickets are certainly difficult to come by and they are certainly not cheap. To apply for tickets it is necessary to enter into a draw, where pairs of tickets are selected at random to decide who will be the lucky spectators of each year's tournament. However, for those who aren't lucky enough to win, there is an alternative. Every year, many disappointed entry holders make their tennis pilgrimage down to Wimbledon regardless in order to soak up the atmosphere on Henman Hill (or Murray Mound as it will no doubt soon be renamed) whilst enjoying the obligatory snack of strawberries and cream. What's more, it is possible to purchase day tickets for the outer courts, which have hosted some phenomenal matches in the past, and experience some Wimbledon-standard tennis playing for a fraction of the price. Wimbledon is really one of Britain's most exceptional events where, unlike the numerous football matches taking place every year, the atmosphere is always friendly and supportive, no matter how intense things may get on court. The crowds are congenial, alcohol is minimal and stylish picnics and classic British snacks are usually the order of the day, in fact. So for a truly English sporting experience, head to Wimbledon in July 2009 and make the most of the atmosphere, whether the ticket draw is in your favour or not.
