Since it was built, the Tower has hosted a circus every single year.
The Tower is made of 2,493 tons of steel and 93 tons of cast iron. It takes 15,000 yards of carpet to cover all the floors. When it first opened, the Tower generated its own electricity. It takes seven years to paint the Tower top to bottom. A glass floor was installed in 1998, called 'The Walk of Faith . It is two inches thick and can withstand the weight of five baby elephants.

The Tower cost approximately £290,000 to build – somewhat over the original budget of £42,000. It is illuminated by 10,000 light bulbs, which are fed by five miles of cable. In a 70mph wind the top of the Tower sways by one inch. The viewing platform is closed if the winds exceed 45mph.

The first marriage to take place in the Tower was performed in the Ballroom in February 1996.
One of the Ballroom s original rules was that 'Gentlemen may not dance, unless with a Lady .
Each of the crystal chandeliers in the ballroom takes a week to clean.
Before he was famous, comedian WC Fields worked in the Ballroom as a juggler before the First World War.

There has been a post box at the top of the Tower since 1949; post is franked with the words 'Posted at the top of Blackpool Tower .

Blackpool Tower is perhaps the town s best-known tourist attraction. As well as being an impressive structure, it contains a huge range of things to do, including a circus, a pantomime, an aquarium, a dinosaur ride, an adventure playground and even a ballroom where you can waltz during afternoon tea. Or you can just take the lift 380 feet to the top and admire the view. Since the first visitors crossed its threshold in 1894 (3,500 of them in one day) the Tower has had a fascinating history and remains a huge attraction for the city s visitors.
