Some cruisers view their cabin as just a place to lay their head. Others consider it the only place to enjoy some privacy. Upgraded cabins will have more space, windows looking out to sea and many have balconies. Cabins with balconies can be worth the extra cost, particularly if you are a late riser. Remember, you can pre-order breakfast in your cabin without any surcharge, although a gratuity is always appreciated and remembered! Here's a smart tip. Although the order card offers tick boxes for basic breakfast items, write down exactly what you want – and you will get it! Have it delivered to the table on your balcony then begin the day in a far more civilized manner than the scrum at the buffet. Now – is that upgrade worth it?

5. Add-on Vacations

Most cruises begin or end in a major city. Rather than flying straight home, consider booking a few days to extend your cruise. Bargains can always be found by booking hotels or coach tours at the same time through your cruise agent. Large cruise companies have huge buying power and can offer some great add-ons at low prices as part of your package.
