With thousands of UK holidaymakers tightening their belts in the current financial climate and with an extra push from this year's volcanic ash cloud chaos many UK families who usually go abroad are opting to holiday in the UK, or take a staycation. When a family holiday in Spain can cost as much as 3000 pounds, it makes sense that families are deciding to stay in the UK.

Many camping sites in locations such as Camber Sands in East Sussex, Bideford Bay in Devon, Thorness Bay in the Isle of Wight, as well as beauty spots across England, Wales and Scotland have had a bumper Summer for 2010 with parks and campsites full to capacity. And these traditional locations are proving a big hit with a generation who had traditionally gone abroad for their summer holidays.

It is not just good news for the UK tourism economy, camping holidays are also good for the environment, camping is loved by grown ups and kids alike and importantly camping represents fantastic value for money for the consumer. Enjoying the great outdoors, whilst enjoying a little luxury has never been easier - or it seems more fashionable. One chain of camping holiday parks has even recruited the former housekeeper from Buckingham Palace to oversee the accommodation.

As well as a dizzying array of camping style accommodation on offer, many camping sites provide plenty of fun for the kids too. There are indoor and outdoor swimming pools, adventure playgrounds, tennis courts, crazy golf and five a side football are just a few of the activities on offer. Some parks even offer kids clubs for toddlers to teens. And lets face it, the busier the children are kept, the more relaxing the adults can do.

With all this entertainment on offer you may not feel inclined to leave your campsite, but in fact Britain boasts some stunning scenery as well as world class beaches. And if the weather turns a little too British, holiday spots are well equipped to deal with this. Plus, there's always the alternative to camping: Hire a static caravan.
