Trekking can take place anywhere in the world and it can last anywhere from a few hours to a few months depending on the trip. Trekking combines two outdoor activities hiking and camping.

Those new to trekking should always travel with someone who has had experience in trekking. Locations are often remote without mobile phone access and injuries can become fatal. However, with the right equipment and experience trekking is one of the most rewarding ways of seeing the world.

When packing for a trekking trip it is important to remember that everything will be carried in a backpack. For this reason, when purchasing gear, its weight and bulk must be considered. Heavy packing causes fatigue, injury, and soreness. When purchasing camping gear always remember to account for its overall weight addition to the backpack carried.

Some trekking items to consider include a water bladder, which carries gallons of water. This is especially important in areas where water is scarce. It traveling long distances a water purifier maybe a good alternative. One tool that every trekker must have is a compass, even if they own one of the current GPS locator tools. A compass is as essential as a good first aid kit. Blisters, cuts, and muscle aches are common ailments when trekking and having a complete first aid kit is essential for good health.

For winter trekkers may need skis or snowshoes to pass through snow-covered areas is important. For climbing crampons maybe needed for their extra griping and their ability to anchor themselves on ice. Winter trekkers should consider purchasing an ice axe for chopping and removing ice.
