This can be a burden on some neighbours, and you might spend a large portion of your trip worrying about your well-being of your furry friend. Is he being locked safely inside at night? Is he getting enough food? Is he getting enough attention?

If you do decide to let your pet go on holiday with you, there are considerations to take into account to ensure everything goes smoothly. First, you need to find pet friendly accommodation that will suit your needs. There are a number of potential options for accommodation that allows animals including some resorts, camping grounds, bed and breakfast places and even hotels. Before planning the trip, make sure you contact the place you're looking to stay at to confirm that the pet you have can infact stay. Even though a venue is 'pet friendly' doesn't mean they won't have certain rules and regulations you need to abide by.

Cats and dogs are banned from national parks in Australia because of the potential threats they can pose to the native wildlife. However some forests allow dogs during the day or even for overnight camping so check with the local authorities on this. If you're staying in proper paid accommodation, make sure you check the types of animals allowed, bedding arrangements, and even times of year. Some places might let animals stay during the middle of the year but not during its peak season when it's a lot busier.

When going away, it's good to bring a familiar blanket or toy for your pet. They can become quite stressed in unfamiliar environments and the familiar item will help reduce this. Also look to bring any medical papers or vaccination cards in case you need to visit a vet while you're away. And ensure the animal has a collar with ID tag complete with name and all your contact details. Put all these things in place and you can look forward to a wonderful trip with your wonderful pet!
