10 Improvements to the iPad2

If, for whatever reason, you've been hiding under a rock for the last few weeks, you won't have noticed that Apple have released the latest version of their award-winning iPad. Things are a lot different since the initial iPad was launched though. Two years ago, there was no Tablet market, meaning that the iPad could be released without any competition. Now though, other companies such as Motorola, Samsung and Blackberry have all launched similar models and Apple now has to compete with them to hold on to their market share.

With that in mind, is the iPad2 still the best around? Personally, we feel that Apple have done a great job again and their marketing has been spot on. Any little glitches that occurred in the first iPad appear to have been ironed out and we have now been presented with smaller, lighter, faster product which comes with a much more impressive operating system.

We'll look, here, at the ten features which have been improved since the original iPad and point out why they make the iPad2 the most attractive product around.

2. The first thing you'll notice is the 1 GHz duel core A5 Processor which has been put into the new iPad2 meaning that the overall speed of the machine (including browsing) is a real step up.

2. While the display on the iPad2 is the same as the original (9.7" LED-Backlit LCD with 1024x768), the newer screen is much more compact meaning that it's much more portable. Especially when compared with the Samsung and Motorola alternatives.

3. The addition which was getting all the press were the two new cameras which have been added to the front and back of the iPad2. The result is that pictures are easier to take and individual owners can now have face-to-face conversations.

4. The WiFi and Bluetooth specifications are largely the same, although the iPad2 now makes use of a Quad Band cell radio which is a definite improvement on the triband HSPA which came as standard in the original iPad.

5. The iPad2 includes a 3 axis gyroscope which will mainly be integrated into a variety of games as well as multimedia.

6. The latest is a much slimmer, more compact version of its earlier brother. Weighing in at just 8.7mm in thickness, the iPad2 is 4.7mm slimmer than the original model.

7. The new also takes advantage of the Apple's new Operating System which launched on the iPhone 4 last year. Multi tasking is now hugely easy and there no glitches thanks to the new dual processor and 512MB RAM.

8. HDMI functionality is included as standard meaning that if you have an HD Television or Projector, they can now be connected to your iPad with just one simple cable.

9. Apple has also taken this opportunity to launch a new 'Smart Cover' which is essentially a flexible piece of metal which fits nicely across the tablet when it is not being used.

10. Unfortunately, there are only nine major improvements. The other thing we wanted to mention though is that Apple has decided to add an extra $100 on to the purchase price. The cheapest model of the iPad2 is now currently weighing in at $499.
