A Small Golf Tutorial

Golf is a great sport, having numerous fans from all over the globe. It's a game where participants strike a little ball with a special club, trying to bring it to a golf hole which is very far away from the place where it starts. The game starts in a field called "teeing ground", and continues into the 2nd area, "putting green", at the limit of which the target hole is located. The aim of the sport is to drive the ball from the teeing ground over the green into the hole in the smaller number of strikes possible.

The winner is the player who beats his adversary at the most holes (this is called match play) and second, the winner is the golfer who finishes one round with the least number of hits (stroke play).

Golf is oftentimes titled the "gentlemen sport". Due to this fact, there are certain moral guidelines to obey when somebody plays this sport. Courtesy is a requirement for each player. Let me offer you some suggestions on how to behave while playing golf:

- the honor of playing the first ball is awarded to the participant that presently has the lowest score

- remember to check the distance and whereabouts of golfer groups that are ahead of you. Only strike the ball if you previously make sure that you won't accidentally hit one of the players in front of you.

- be ready to play the ball when it's your turn. Nobody enjoys it when a fellow player stalls the game because he didn't know it was going to be his turn next.

- have a respectful approach towards the group you are in front of. If you find yourself at par 3, it is advised to shoot the ball towards the green, mark and let the following group to go on with their game.

- pay attention not to ruin the green in any way.

- do not engage in a conversation with a friend or with another player when a golfer is taking his shot.

- when you are waiting for a player that is organizing his shot, do not stand near him and try not to make sudden movements.

- don't enter the field if you are not dressed properly.

- don't take animals to the golf course, not even if they have muzzles on

- don't smoke cigarettes or cigars on the field

- you shouldn't bring electronic "noise makers" that could disturb other players (phones, cd-players etc)

- don't enter the golf course if you are drunk, and don't drink alcohol while on the green

Keep these rules in mind when you go golfing, for otherwise you won't entirely get what it is all about. Have fun!
