Within the state of Georgia, biking trails abound for bikers of all experience levels. As a rule, the northern part of the state features more mountainous areas with steeper inclines, while the lower part of the state offers flat terrain with sandy trails. With so many trails to choose from, you're certain to find a trail you'll enjoy riding!

Novice bikers will enjoy the Silver Comet trail near Powder Springs. It is 40 miles of paved road with plenty of gorgeous scenery along the way. It is very well-maintained and well marked. Since much of the track used to be an old railroad bed, you can ride through old railroad tunnels and across bridges for added adventure!

Intermediate bikers will get a fantastic workout on the 6-mile loop called the Horn Creek Trail. Located close to Augusta, you'll find some really adventurous features-like old, collapsed bridges, tree roots, rocks, fallen logs and trees, steep hard inclines, and rapid descents. The good news is, there are areas that enable you to andquot;bail outandquot; of this trail if necessary because you find it's a little more challenging than you expected.

The Dauset Trails and Nature Center are located near Jackson. There are about 15 miles of track that are a mixture of old fire roads and loops. Be prepared to navigate some rock gardens, waterbar jumps, earth terraces, and plenty of roots. The trails are well-maintained and very well marked for both inexperienced and advanced riders. Regardless of your skill level, there is something here for you!

Another great series of trails with a great variety of options for new and advanced riders is by Lawrenceville. Tribble Mill Park features trails crisscrossing around two area lakes and is a great destination for hours of exploration. Some trails are paved and easy to navigate while others have challenging climbs and drop-offs, twisting turns, and roots, rocks, and ruts to navigate. Equestrians also enjoy these trails, so you may have some little horse surprises to dodge around, too.

The Velo Augusta Bike Club created a really challenging 4-mile course near Augusta for advanced riders to tackle. The Pump House Trail will require technical skills to navigate rocks and loose dirt, exposed tree roots, and steep climbs. Switchbacks, dense forest, and fallen tree branches and logs also keep it interesting. Don't forget to bring your own water, and wearing a helmet is recommended.

If you're an experienced rider looking for a serious challenge, consider heading toward Chatsworth to take on the Windy Gap Trail. This 12-mile loop will get your heart racing and is definitely not for beginners. In fact, you'll need a bike well equipped for climbs, jumps, and landings-with disc brakes and a full suspension-because this is a very technical, very fast, and very steep ride. After you brave the steep inclines, you'll find some awesome air jumps to reward you for your efforts!

Whether you're looking for thrills and excitement or a more low key relaxing ride, Georgia's trails have it all. Set amid waterfalls and beautiful forests, plains and hills, the scenery is astounding and the trails are available for year-round enjoyment. Nature lovers and biking enthusiasts will both find plenty to appreciate on the trails in Georgia. So start packing your gear and plan to check out some of these great trails sometime soon!
