Divorce and Its Implications About Modern Society

It is time to take another look at what may be causing the divorce rate in the United States to continue to rise. The frequency of divorce affects traditional roles not just within the family, but in the work force as well. Another result to all of this is that people in America are starting to rethink what a 'normal' family looks like.

The United States never saw much of this happening before the twentieth century. Although divorce was codified in Roman law two thousand years ago, the American norms were set in religious views that were negative toward separated couples.

Recent changes in the American workplace have caused changes in roles within the family as well. In the United States, it is estimated that almost half of all marriages are composed of one or both spouses who were previously married. In 2008 an approximate of forty percent of marriages ended in divorce

The last part of the twentieth century saw a persistent increase of women joining the workforce and making a mark outside of their homes. It is not clear that women working outside the home led to more separations or if the increased workforce participation was the result of more separations. Another reason that more and more women are going to work outside of the home might be a simple need for additional money.

Anytime one parent is no longer in the picture it can have a huge impact on everyone one involved, children and adults alike. In the past, it seemed that the law tended to be on the side of the mother, in the case of a separation, but recently we are seeing a new trend in which more fathers are accepting lead custody of the children in question.

Whereas there worn to be a incredibly obvious description among the role of women and role of men within the household, it is now fuzzierSome children are doing more chores while they're still young because their mother is working. This can lead to tension in the household over parenting decisions.

Dissolving a marriage in America can be costly and time-consuming. It is not at all uncommon for reputable financial advisers to recommend that couples sign a prenuptial agreement. While not a romantic way to begin a marriage, financial planners favor them because they allow better protection of assets in case of separation. Specifically, it can help couples to minimize legal costs and it provides some protection to the spouse with greater wealth.
