Astonishing Divorce Facts

When a couple falls in love and gets married they should always aim to be there for one another during the good and the bad times. But, often due to various issues they file for a divorce. When a married couple has problems in their marriage, they will usually file for a legal separation. Somebody applying for separation cannot apply without providing a reason he or she wants to separate. One study says that 49% of all marriages end in divorce and beyond that only 52% of couples will still be married at their 15th anniversary. While Sweden has a high rate of 64%, it is lower in Greece and Italy with 18% and 12% respectively and Israel is somewhere in the middle with a moderate 26%. There are many reasons why couples opt to separate or end their marriage. Some of the important issues which lead to separation are marital infidelity, problems with communication, abuse, financial problems and incompatibility. When partners in a marriage are unable to communicate properly with each other, small problems get magnified and they assume large proportions. Often, the differences can be resolved by bringing them into the open for a frank discussion. A major factor in the failure of marriages is adultery. When one partner in a marriage discovers or suspects that his/her partner has been cheating, this often becomes unbearable for the other partner. Cheating on a spouse may lead to many legal problems. Other reasons for divorce are abuse and financial problems. Abuse can be emotional abuse or it also can be some bad habit like excessive drinking or gambling. People may, at times, belittle their partner and hurl insults at them. When things become too hard for the person suffering they may decide to separate from their spouse. Incompatibility is the most common reason given for a divorce. According to studies, it has been seen that those who had a happy life at home growing up where their parents stayed together, tend to have a low risk of separating in their marriages. Often those who have money wait until later in life to get married are less likely to have this issue. Many religions are not fond of divorce and many couples who are religious often stay together. When spouses make the decision to legally separate, it can have far-reaching implications on everything from their careers, emotional health, and financial stability. People who are experiencing the end of a marriage often have mood swings, concentration problems, fatigue, insomnia, tension and a variety of other health problems. Some people experience depression with negative thoughts and frequently have nightmares. Legal separation has a profound impact on children too. They long for the presence of both parents and experience different feelings like being confused, afraid, lonely, doubtful, being angry and separate loyalties. Children suffer the most, as they are unable to understand the reason behind the separation of their parents. People who have witnessed the splitting of their family can often lose trust and faith in little things, they can also become withdrawn, resentful and even angry.
