What Survival Gear Should You Keep Together

There are several different reasons to carry survival gear but they will all have the same purpose and will consist of basically the same things. There is the need for first aid and health needs. This would consist of bandages, antibiotics, creams and liniments to treat cuts and wounds so that they will not become infected.

There should always be some way for you to signal for help. You will definitely want to have some kind of flare gun because even though modern technology allows us to make cell phone calls, sometimes there is no signal. Two way radios with long range capability can work in a pinch. If it is essential that you be found, you will want to have some way to contact someone. This is very important.

You will also want to include a tent of some kind or a shelter that will protect you from the elements. At least a one person tent should always be packed in any kit. They can come compressed to the size of a small towel. Hunters often use these on hunting trips.

Another element that is vital to a complete survival kit is fresh water and food. If you are keeping your survival gear in a certain place at all times, you should regularly change out any water that you are saving because water can grow stale. Canned goods usually stay good for a long time, depending on what they are and the military has ready to eat packs that can be stored for years without spoiling.

Be sure that the flashlight you have with your gear has fresh batteries and is in good working condition. You may want to consider storing more than one light with many sets of extra batteries. If you keep batteries in the flashlights, check them regularly, as well, to make sure they have not leaked.

Extra sets of clothing or a jacket are good things to have in any kit. Perfect for natural disasters in cold climates, this may be a lifesaver in an emergency situation. Some military kits will include a sewing kit and some kind of knife or multitool device with several blades and options, like a bottle opener and a file.

A good multi-tool with several blades and other options is very useful in tight situations. The survival gear you put together will depend on what kind of possibility you are expecting. Different tasks will require different items but they will all be fairly standard with the items mentioned above.
