IP CCTV: Why choose it?

Article Written By: emilyrobinson01

Add Your Picture Closed Circuit Television basically means that you have a camera system that is dedicated to recording your premises and making sure that no one is there who shouldn't be. But not all CCTV was made equal and some systems are even better than others. In particular IP CCTV is a very accomplished form and one that will have many benefits over the other.

What is IP CCTV? Essentially the IP here stands for 'Internet Protocol' and this means that your cameras are connected wirelessly to the internet. While an analogue CCTV system works by being connected to a television and a VHS recording device, this works by transmitting the video feed for you to watch or download or even manipulate and this gives it many advantages.

It is possible to stream the footage remotely. This means that you can enjoy watching your cameras when you're not on the premises and this has many important security boons. If an alarm sounds for instance – then rather than driving to your location you can simply check on your phone or laptop to see what the IP CCTV camera is seeing and to decide whether you need to intervene or not.

Then there's the fact that IP is digital. This means that it can be stored on a memory card, that it can be manipulated and e-mailed or stored on a server and all that makes it very practical and very useful compared to other types. And it means that it can work alongside software for more impressive features – for instance you can set it up with motion detection and arrange it so that your CCTV only starts to record when it detects motion.

This then means that you won't end up with hours of blank footage that you need to sift through but rather you'll have just a few minutes to look at. You can even combine this with video analysis so that the camera isn't sensitive to movement per-se, but to human movement.

The lack of wires mean that the cameras can be placed anywhere, this in turn means that you can capture the whole room at once with one well placed camera, or a couple and even better it means that you can easily move the cameras into new locations when the layout of your property changes.
