Owning a home is a great feat for many, and ensuring that the home is kept safe and secure is a precautious step that many disregard and inevitably pay the price for when a devastating situation occurs. Most home owners do not invest in home security cameras. Some may find it too expensive or unnecessary. At other times, many feel as though the neighborhood and area lived in proves to be a safe haven and thus investing in security such as a camera is not efficient. Also as indicated many have, "It will not happen to me" mentality. According to crime statistics, a robbery occurs every 10 seconds within the United States alone. Thus, many are being affected on a daily basis. More so, according to a Statistics Canada Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) about half of home invasions involve some time of weapon being used and most victims of home invasion robberies typically are over the age of 60. Because of these vast amounts of robbery numbers one must take every precautionary method available to ensure that the home and family is protected. Outlines are some steps that should be considered when looking out for the safety of one's home. First, do not advertise to others if you live alone. This will make the home appear as an easy target and a sure fire thing for any robber. Second, robbers typically look for the home with the easiest form of entry and one that will also appear to be less secure. By installing home security cameras, or even dummy cameras, this alone will deter the robbery from approaching or even considering a home invasion. It is recommended to have a peep hole on the main entrance, or the installation of a camera to view newcomers. Be sure to verify the individual. If they appear to be unfamiliar, do not allow them into the home. If it is stated they are a service company such as postal service, delivery, etc. ask for identification. Be suspicious of all persons approaching your home. Also even if you do not have a dog, considering placing a BEWARE of Dog sign somewhere clearly visible in the yard, or where all passer buyers can see. Again, as noted before, this will act as a deterring method, thus removing your home from the consideration set of the robber. The most important and perhaps the most obvious tip for heightening security and avoiding a robbery situation would be to make sure all windows and doors are locked. Many have a tendency to forget such things, but creating a routine habit of doing this will inevitably become second nature. As stated previously, robbers tend to look for the simplest method of entry and look to get in and out of a home as soon as possible. By taking into consideration the steps listed above, and by investing in a few home security cameras, one can expect to have a safe home at all times.
