When you choose a phone there are many different aspects to consider and there are many different things that make a great phone. Particularly in today's world of smart phones that can do literally anything you might think of. You can get phones that are permanently connected to the internet, that can take truly high definition pictures, that have bluetooth, that play 3D games (even N64 games!) that have GPS and sometimes even turn-by-turn navigation and that generally do everything except make tea for you. So with all this available how do you go about choosing the best one for you?

Well the way to start to get your bearing in this world of phone options is to find out what the options available to you are and this way you can then choose the best phone for you. One tip though is to look for a phone that has an SD slot to allow you to use a 32GB Micro SDHC or a 64GB SDCX as these will drastically increase the practicality and functionality of your phones. Following are some of the options:

WiFi: WiFi essentially means you can connect to the internet provided in your home if you have a wireless router. This means free internet connection at high speeds around your home which is great for smart phones.

3G: However if you want to have internet anywhere else then you will need a 3G connection in order to allow you to connect quickly enough to use online apps wherever you are.

Tethering: We're looking at the useful functions that could be considered game changers here, and tethering for many people is – allowing you to connect your laptop to your phone's 3G connection for internet on the go on your laptop or netbook. Highly useful.

GPS: GPS is what you need in order to be able to use location services and these include even turn-by-turn navigation in some cases. This way you need never be lost again.

Camera: A camera is useful not only for taking photos (though it is of course highly useful for that too), but also for 'augmented reality apps' which just might be the future. Look for the 'megapixles' and anything over 4 is serviceable while 6 and over is very good.

OS: The OS is the 'Operating System' on which your phone runs. For apple phones that's the 'Apple OS', but other good ones are the Android OS and Windows 7.

SD Slot: A phone with an SD slot is a highly useful feature as it gives you a lot of different uses and opens up the phone in a range of ways. For instance an SD slot that lets you use a 64GB SDCX will allow you to exchange data between your phone and your computer with ease – for instance letting you take a photo then sharing it with a friend on their computer, or copying music files onto your phone to listen to on the go. At the same time a 64GB SDCX will allow you to back up your phone and make sure that you never lose your data.
