These can simply be stacked against a wall, and you may even consider getting the kind with wheels so that in case you feel like you re in the mood to redecorate or rearrange your garage, you can move it from one side of the garage to the other. Industrial shelving is a great way to add extra space to a small garage as you can add layers of shelves in it to store your equipment.

You can purchase industrial shelves in either closed (three sides of the shelf is closed with only one opening serving as the place for you to put the things you are going to store in) or open style. The open style comes with only the top and bottom part closed but the sides are open. This is great if you have a few items which are longer than most of the items you have, and getting a shelf exclusively for them seems unreasonable.

When you are in the process of organizing your garage, you should start with the bigger (and also the heaviest) items first. These should go towards the bottom of the shelves which has the most support. You can then work your way up towards the shelves by placing the smaller and lighter items towards the top.

Placing the bigger and heavier items in the lower part of your shelves is also a good idea for another reason. Aside from the support it receives from the legs of the shelves, the larger items will be easier to find and access when needed. Even though they are at the bottom, because of their size it will be easier to see them. Spare tires are a great item to store in the bottom part of your shelves.

However, even though you may have a lot of shelves installed in your garage, this does not mean you are already effectively making use of the space you have. Installing a garage workbench or metal shelving is not the end of it. You also need to take the extra effort to have a place for everything and to put everything in its place after you use it. You can t just dump whatever items you used on your shelves and forget about them. If you do, this will only make it harder for you to find what you need when you need them in the future.
