That's most likely why many people choose to decorate their homes with oak furniture. It has such versatility that which ever way you choose to decorate your home nothing will be a bad choice. There are about 295 different types of oak worldwide, but only 50 of those are available in the United States. The reasoning is that a lot of the other types are not that easy to handle and shape thus making it too much trouble and too expensive to use here in the states.

What determines whether or not a certain piece of Oakwood can go in which home really is dependent on the homeowner. I have seen people mismatch certain styles and items of furniture, but the usual case is the age and style of the home. For example, a house on the beach in Malibu, CA probably wouldn't have a great deal of antique furniture inside of it. Or a Victorian home in Greenville, SC wouldn't feature any light modern Oakwood tables inside of it.

Sometimes there are rare cases of when people do cross this line, but not often. We are speaking generally so there will always be exceptions to the rule. There are so many different types of items in a home and depending on the design there may be a certain need for a piece or maybe not. A fireplace will have a mantle and the mantle would most likely be wood. Some people may want the mantle piece to be made from oak and stained or painted depending on the design of the home and fireplace.

For most modern homes the oak furniture is usually cut thinner so it can be molded a certain way to be sleek and molded. Sometimes it will be covered with another material as to match a specific design or texture. In the more vintage homes oak won't be altered that much.

Sometimes an oak table or cabinet will be stained not only to protect the wood surface, but to match the room. Oak is a symbol of stability for most people because it's so solid and heavy. When someone has it in their home you get a feel that their home is stable, strong, and unmovable.
