Some fashion publications have, in the past, warned curvier women to steer clear of the skinny jean trend, as they can draw unwanted attention to your thighs and bum. However, if you pick a dark colour and team them with your most vertiginous pair of heels, whether they be boots, sandals or shoes, skinny jeans can, in fact, lengthen and slim the leg. Wear with belted tunic tops if you're still feeling self conscious.

Skinny jeans are one of the most versatile styles available. Team with pumps, ankle boots or converse trainers for a funky daytime look, or a fabulous pair of heels and a sparkly top for evening wear. If you're pear shaped, go for tunic style tops, and, if you want to highlight your waist, add a wide belt.

A straight cut jean is never out of fashion. Whilst skinny looks and boot cuts may flit in and out of the fashion charts, straight leg jeans are here to stay. Make sure your wardrobe is equipped with at least one pair. Don't be afraid to invest in this item, either. Find the right pair and they could last you throughout the whole of the new decade. For anyone who wants to minimise hips and thighs, whilst still showing off their top half, a tight T shirt or sweater should keep the look nice.
