Various types of equipment exist for the different types of games and activities like climbing, balancing, sliding, spinning and hanging.Sliding equipments are very familiar and popular with kids. They include individual slides as well as those containing a climbing frame. They are mostly made of plastics and sheet metal. Most are between four feet and twelve feet. Higher slides require keen supervision by a responsible adult. Nowadays, they are including designs that are curvy, bumpy and twisty. There are many designs, in different sizes and shapes. They come in three designs and configurations; climbing wall, cargo net and monkey bars. They serve the dual purpose of entertaining the child while at the same time serves as an exercise. The climbing wall features a flat wall that has inclusions in it to act as foot and hand holds. Most are made from tough plastics. Many sizes are available for the different age groups and capabilities. They feature harnesses which assist the child in climbing and also secure him in case he slips. They are made to look like real rocks, thus also have a sense of a nature adventure around them. Many playgrounds today donand#146;t feature the traditional spinning playground equipment. Commercial spinning equipment include science concepts such as centre of gravity and bearings which results to better and more enjoyable slides. This has resulted in swinging equipment that are safe, easy to spin and most of all, light.Hanging equipment is more of the challenging type of playground equipment. They are mostly available for older kids or younger kids under supervision. The most common type is the monkey bar. It comes in a variety of models such as parallel bars, swinging type, up and over and solid bars. The hanging type develops the upper body strength of kids. It is fun and results in a rewarding sense of achievement upon successful completion.Balancing equipment includes see-saw, balance beams, stepping stones and log rolls. Others include rope bridges. They are mainly ground based and require minimal supervision by an adult. The more challenging variety includes the spring discs and swinging logs. Various sizes and models exist for backyard playgrounds and parks.A latest addition to commercial playground equipments are activity sets. They include alphabet and number boards, mirrors, building blocks and Tetris blocks. This a more academic and more mind involving section of the playground equipment. It involves matching of shapes, jigsaw puzzles and colouring. Another type closely related to this is the sand and water play which includes an area with sand and containers of different sizes. Here children engage in building sand castles and any other shapes that please them.
