Do you know how many different types of hangers are, in fact, available to your Average Ordinary Joe? While it has to be said that no matter how you look at it, a hanger is still a device for organizing articles of clothing, that doesn't mean that all hangers are created equal.

The point of this article is not to help someone build up a strange fascination with the hangers that fill their closets. It is simply an attempt to show that there are a number of options available that many people never considered. You can skip the cheap dollar store bundles and get some hangers that will last.

Suppose, for example, you really do want to add a bit of an elegant look to your closet. Wooden hangers are your friend here. But the choices don't stop there. You still have to decide on the design and the type of wood you use, which can include everything from walnut and cedar to bamboo.

If you prefer some nice shiny chrome in your closet, however, you can look into the metal hangers. These come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, and some of them even have some surprisingly artistic designs. These metal hangers can be pretty thin, though, so you should be aware of this and avoid hanging anything too heavy on them. Stick to wood for the big stuff.

And don't forget all the specialized hangers. Sure, you say, any old hanger can hold up one pair of slacks, but were you aware of the specialty hangers that can hold three or four pairs in a nice, space saving order? They're easier to get than you might think.

Plastic hangers seem to be the choice of a penny-saving generation, and that's not always a good thing. If you run a clothing boutique, it's probably almost a requirement. These come in all shapes and sizes, whether you are looking for children's hangers or special "shaper" hangers, these are cheap and easy to buy in large quantities.

Has it been unequivocally proven that hangers are an amazing invention that can serve more functions than previously imagined? Probably not. If, however, you'd like to add a little character to your closet, you do have some options available to you.
