When we were still newlyweds, my husband had an idea about kayaking, he suggested that maybe we could enjoy it as a hobby. Excited and adventurous as I was, both my husband and I joined a training's class for those who wanted to learn kayaking. I am fond of being in the water, I like swimming and scuba diving. I had a change of heart though, when we finished the second day of orientation. The session was about what to do if the boat turned over leaving you upside down. The thought of it already frightened me. Although, same as a duck that belongs in water, my husband was very in to it.

Every chance he'd get, he'd joined every kayaking trip. He loves the thrill of getting bumped with the rapids. We agreed that when he goes on kayaking, all I have to do is drop him off and fetch him after a few hours at the end of the river. This was perfectly fine with me. The coziness of the woods makes me relax as I wait in the car for my husband to finish his kayak trip, and sometimes I pair it with a book. If not, I would do a little adventure of my own by trekking in the woods looking for animals and plants that might be of interest to me. Because we worked it out this way, we could pack the car with lunch, clothes and equipment. My husband was a photographer like me. Each of us had our own camera equipment, complete with accessories, and we all brought it along during our trips.

During that time, he also convinced a friend of ours to join on his boat rides. His friend was not the kind of person who loves to go outdoors. He was curious though, he thought of having an adventure too. He trained and got pretty good at rolling and maneuvering the kayak. But when they went out for his first kayak trip, it turned out differently. The kayak he was on turned upside down trapping him beneath the water near some branches and he couldn't free himself. Fortunately, my husband was there looking out for him. When our friend didn't resurface at once because the kayak was still upside down, he immediately went for his aid. Our friend was very thankful for my husband saving his life. Without hesitation, he placed an ad the following day selling his kayak. Back then, we had lots of fun outdoors, and as proof, we took pictures of the places we've gone to.

As we have moved forward in our lives and activities, so has technology. Kayaking is already out of the picture, however photography and hiking is still in. Years before, it became kind of a habit, however burdensome it may be, to bring all our photo equipments complete with all its accessories when we go out on a hike. You might as well add on that list, cellular phones, Blackberry and other things because you can't leave the house without that at these times. My husband and I discovered something quite interesting that can replace the extra batteries that we brought most of the time.

It is a flexible solar panel that rolls up for easy transport. It resists water, it doesn't break easily and it's handy - you can bring it while kayaking or hiking up in the mountains and most especially camping. This solar panel can be used on various technology, as charger for our cameras, cell phones, video cameras. It can even charge our vehicle's batteries. We can just roll it up and carry it with us on one of our adventures. Now we're still using it for something else, when it could have been handy during our kayaking days. This is one terrific invention!
