Claims many armchair commentators who claim that we now have a vast amount of the population cashing in on the 'no win no fee' offers that many internet and high street law firms are promising their potential clients and that we now live in a state of dependency and a culture of welfare. An insight is offered by Liverpool personal injury lawyer Jeffrey Logan, who is a partner at Liverpool law firm Goodmans.

While it does seem that the introduction of 'no win no fee' claims would lead to more frivolous cases and claims, and a general increase in cases on the whole, many lawyers dispute this claim, as they claim that lawyers act as a a filter to make sure that cases that don't have any hope of winning do not make it to court.

Logan asserts that he personally ensures that Liverpool's Goodmans law firm doesn't take on cases that do not have less than a 60% chance of winning; if they did then there would be too much of a financial risk to the company. In addition, Logan claims that solicitors now have a vested interest in reducing the amount of expensive delays that such cases can cause.

Unfortunately the public image of the negative stereotype of a victim slipping on a banana skin or some other inconsequential object and suing somebody or an organisation for thousands remains, with the press perpetuating this supposed 'compensation culture'.

This can ignite a range of feelings in whoever is reading it, with the main two being outrage or envy; maybe a knock on effect occurs, causing them to make their own frivolous claim themselves in the hope of receiving a large cash pay out.

Liverpool has its own share of these problems, as one of the UK's major cities; Goodmans is only one of a number of the cities' law firms that are inundated with huge amounts of claims on a day to day basis. Logan claims that much of the personal injury lawyers' time is spent filtering through each claim and deciding which are relevant and appropriate to present to a court of law.
However, another Liverpool injury lawyer, Ian Cohen has claimed that the new government law that has been instated will allow a new test of competence against which personal injury lawyers could measure the cleanliness and general upkeep of hospitals which could lead to a higher amount of 'super bug' claims, as it regards the way in which hospitals should be cleaned.
