Is Halliburton Complicit In The Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig Disaster?

The responsible parties in the tragedy of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill are thought to be well know: Transocean who owned the submersible oil rig, and BP who was leasing and operating it at the time of the explosion. It appears time to add a third party to that list; Halliburton, the giant energy services company, and the party responsible for cementing Deepwater's drill hole.

What exactly was Halliburton's role in this awful tragedy? If you have asked this question yourself, turns out you are not alone; Congress has brought in Halliburton executives to ask them the very same question. Current theory has the company's botched cement job as the catalyst in a complex string of events that culminated with the explosion, fire, presumed death of 11 men, and oil spill on April 20.

Rep. Henry Waxman, the Beverly Hills House of Representatives member leading the inquiry into Halliburton, had this to say regarding the company's cementing job:
"Before, during or after the cement job, an undetected influx of hydrocarbons entered the wellbore. What this means is that there was a breach somewhere in well integrity that allowed methane gas and possibly other hydrocarbons to enter the well."

According to Rep. Waxman, BP's senior vice president for the Gulf of Mexico stated that the cement well created by Halliburton did not pass the first pressure test, and may have even blown moments after conducting the second one. Despite this attempt to pass the buck, countless victims have begun filing lawsuits against BP.

With the US Government, BP, Transocean, and now Halliburton playing the blame game with each other, who is there to look out for the interests of the hundreds of workers injured in this catastrophe or the countless others who have surely been affected by it?

Workers and their families need to be aware that there are experienced Deepwater Horizon Attorneys out there who can fight for their rights, no matter the culpable party. An attorney familiar with the intricacies of the Deepwater Horizon case can provide you with the knowledge needed for lawsuits against Transocean. By contacting a Deepwater Horizon Attorney you can finally rest assure that a strong team is fighting for your interests, not just playing the blame game.
