Handling Injury At Work The Right Way

Your superiors should train you and teach you about any type of injury at work. But you must also use a bit of common sense. Your common sense is used at home on a regular basis, and using it at work just makes sense. Common sense comes into play during unusual circumstances.

This means being careful when it comes to unusual occurrences. In other words be careful about spills or slippery floors and walkways when raining. It's common sense to walk carefully or avoid the slick area if possible. Injuries occur quickly because of unusual circumstances. If you notice something such as this take the time to notify superiors or other employees so no one is caught by surprise.

Should you become injured at work it's very important that your boss is informed as soon as they can be. If your boss is not around, get someone to give you basic first aid, and then record the situation and the circumstances. Make a record of what occurred, how it occurred, about the injury, and also, why you think the injury or accident happened. By making a good record as soon as you can, your details will be recorded and you won't forget them.

Don't forget to get pictures if possible. Many wireless phones today take great pictures so use what is available to record in pictures your accident and the surrounding situations. And don't forget to get pictures of the weather and the accident area from four directions. Also ask anyone who saw the accident to write what they saw down and then make a copy for them and for yourself.

After basic first aid, head for a medical professional. Even if you don't think you need a medical opinion, get one anyway. Something may show up later and you can avoid many problems by heading for the doctor right away.

Remember, document the injury and accident, go to your doctor, and inform your boss as soon as you can and you'll have an easier time getting workman's insurance to handle your case.

An injury at work of any type is a possible problem down the road. Most employers have certain things you have to do in order to receive compensation. Be sure to use all of the recording tools you have at the time to properly document the situation. Also, make copies of the recordings, talk to your boss, and make sure you're following all safety precautions and use common sense.
