Web hosting is the place where a website lives on the internet. There are literally tens of thousands of servers around the world which "host" websites, storing their content and information and displaying it on the web for all to see. Web hosting is a necessary part of a website, so it's important you put time and resources into finding a hosting solution that is appropriate for your business.

If you're like most small businesses, you probably have a small budget and so cheap web hosting would appeal to you. This can be a good option to help you save money but you need to make sure that you're still getting a hosting account that is reliable and services your appropriate needs.

I have been lured in to a cheap hosting option once or twice and let me tell you, it can create more hassel than savings! One particular company offered VERY low prices which I thought was great. But after purchasing the server space and uploading a number of my websites onto their hosting, I found out that the speeds were VERY slow! Sometimes a simple page took over a minute to download, and sometimes didn't download at all!

Another company I purchased hosting with again seemed very affordable and value for money. I set a website up on the server and it seemed to download fast and looked good. However a few weeks later I couldn't upload some new information. It turns out their special deal was for a very limited amount of disk space. And to upgrade, it was going to cost me a LOT more!

These are not isolated incidents and there are plenty of budget web hosting companies that sounds too good to be true...and are. That's not to say there are no good low cost web hosting providers that offer quality service at a great price. You just need to do your homework when researching them.

So when you're looking to save money on your web hosting there are 2 important things to look at. Firstly, does the company offer all the features and disk space that you need for the price you're after. Secondly, do they have reliable servers that are fast loading, secure, and don't experience significant levels of downtime.

This latter thing can be harder to determind, but if you simply Google the companies name, you should find forums with reviews on them which will allow you to quickly find out if they are to be avoided...or just what you're looking for!
