Offering your professional services on a freelance basis is a great way to boost your overall earning potential. Online jobs opportunities are vast and finding work isn't too difficult providing you can demonstrate and convince individuals of your ability.
Web designer and graphic designers in general are in high demand and always will be. Freelance professionals are generally paid large sums of money if they have the skills to produce and design work that can win customers over and market products or services. Skills in Photoshop also allow to offer services such as image editing for publishers who publish images for magazine and newspaper print. Photographs are usually heavily processed and modified for color correction and skin tone correction etc before being published.
The life of a freelance designer is often varied, and can include working on designs for web banners, brochures, business cards, mail template designs, billboard ad designs and many more. Design is a specialized skill, and designers typically hold degrees in design or the arts - they tend to not be as technical as engineers/developers.
Designers are very creative in nature, and tend to think concepts through in their heads before beginning the actual design. Very good designers will typically design for a purpose, instead of designing for fun; the design should be purposeful and would typically achieve a business goal like marketing etc.
Freelancing is very task oriented, and you are generally paid on a per project/task basis although there are occasions in which you can work on an hourly basis. Payment methods for receiving client payments are also very flexible, and you in-fact set out how you would like to be paid. It is always advisable to ask for a percentage upfront to protect yourself from clients who may suddenly discontinue a project that you have partly completed.
