Ways to Reduce Your Website Loading Time

Article Written By: winston

Add Your Picture A website must have the potential to reach users living in all corners of the world. However, the speed of internet connection is not the same everywhere - some users might have the high speed connections while others use slow speed broadband and dial up connections. In this situation it is important to design a website that can be accessed fast and with ease. If you want visitor retention on your web pages, reducing the load time is one of the basic solutions.

The first thing you need to do is analyzing the current speed of your website. This allows to track the areas for improvement and ensures that any changes you make will positively improve your page load times. There are many online free tools available for checking the speed of your site. You can use them for this.

Web designs that use many images generally take a long time to load. Even a good looking website may have to lose valuable visitors, if the web pages take too much loading time. Try to use less number of images and graphics while maintaining the look and impact of the website design. Generally text links are search engine friendly and load faster than graphic buttons. If you want to use large images, don't place them in an important page. You can have a dedicated section for them like Gallery”.

There are different image formats like GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF. Changing to a different format can dramatically decrease the file size of an image. Generally, GIF is ideal for images with few colors like logos, while JPEG is great for images with lots of colors and details like photographs. When you need high quality transparent images, you can use PNG format.

Don't use a larger image than you need just because you can set the width and height attributes of elements in HTML. If you need a 200x200px image and you have a 800x800px image, use image editors like Photoshop to resize it to the needed dimensions. If the file size of the image is low, it will decrease the page loading time.

If you use a content management system to generate your web pages, you should statically cache your web pages and database queries to speed up page rendering times. When you cache your page, it saves a static version of it to be presented to the user instead of recreating it every time it is requested.

A clean coding will definitely reduce the loading time. Check for empty and redundant tags get inserted in the code and carefully remove them. By using DIV tags and CSS you can avoid inserting tables.

The above-mentioned tips can help you reduce the loading time of your website. You can also avail the help of a good web designer for this.
