The first Blogger site I had, I paid someone to set it up for me, because even though it seemed quite straight forward, I was still a bit overwhelmed by it all! But, when I started to realise how much could be done, other than just blogging, I decided that I wanted to really learn how to do it myself. Luckily, I found a great site that explained very easily some of the great things that you can do with the plug-ins, and how easy it is to get set up.

Widgets on the right, or the option to put them there. You want your call to action to be on the right of the page. You want your best, most customisable, content to be in the middle or the left. This is because you want the sales proposition to be the first thing that the user sees. When they use Google to search for your product you want them to see that first. Their eye will naturally track to the right, where you put your call to action button. This should says something like "buy now!" or "try me".

With a Blogger website you can choose from the thousands of blogger templates available out there. Some themes let you change your entire color layout with the click of a button, others let you keep the overall theme but change the width, or number of columns just by checking a box. Not only that, Blogger designers are constantly working to create new and better professional quality themes that users can purchase for a very reasonable price.

Background colour of the body is white. This is for readability. Large areas of text that are white on black are very difficult to read. It also makes it difficult to use any other colours in your body if the background is not white.

Stretchable side areas some themes have a right hand side justified theme, or one that is fixed width. This can make it difficult to read your website on the hundreds of other screen sizes and browsers available.

So have fun exploring all the themes which are out there, free and paid, and decide which one will work best for you. A good tip is to look at the footer of a site that you like, often it will tell you which theme is used, so you can find it for yourself and read up more about it.
