Most internet marketers who use SEO as a primary website promotion method spend all their time focusing on their rankings in Google. I can t say that I blame them. After all, Google has the lion's share of the search market. If your website performs well in Google then you are probably going to make a lot more money than you would if it just performed well in Bing. Some of us SEO people still do spend some time on the other search engines like Yahoo and Bing. You might be wondering how hard it is to get a website to rank high in Bing.In my personal opinion, it is a lot easier to get a website s homepage to rank well in Bing than it is to get it to rank well in Google. There are specific techniques you can use to get your homepage to move higher in Bing. Those techniques are very easy to implement. One of the big secrets is realizing that they reward links from within your own website more than Google does. At least that appears to be the case to me. If you have a lot of internal links pointing to your homepage using a specific anchor text, then your homepage is much more likely to rank higher for that phrase. For whatever reason, Bing likes homepages much more than internal pages. I am not sure if it is simply because of the natural link structure of most websites or if it has something to do with an intentional component in Bing's ranking algorithm. In my experience with many different websites in many different niches, it is always easier to get the homepage to rank well. In fact it is probably ten times easier than getting an internal page to rank well. You can get internal pages ranked well in Bing. It just takes more work than a homepage.Bing is a big fan of anchor text just like Google is only more so. Bing really likes when you have a bunch of pages linking back to your page using the same anchor text. If that anchor text matches the text that is in your page title, then you will see even better results. Bing is a big fan of having the right words in the page title. One little trick that I have used time and time again is to examine the HTML for my pages on my site. I check to see where the first few hyperlinks are on each page. I try to modify my site structure so that the first link on each page that links back to my homepage is using the ideal anchor text that I want the homepage to rank for. That little trick alone works wonders. I think it works well because the search engines tend to discount the second or third link on a page that links back to the same location as other links on that page. So, if you link to your homepage in three different spots, the anchor text of the first or highest link on the page is the most important. I don t have any proof to back that up. It is just an observation that I have made time and time again. In a nutshell, ranking high in Bing is a bit easier than ranking high in Google. Try the suggestions I gave you and you ll see that they work.
