Second Life is the most large and popular virtual world. All the contents are created and built directly by the community, relying on the fact the Linden Lab provide members of Second Life with tools and a programming language to create stuffs, scripts, builds and customization of the characters. Unlikely other virtual worlds, Second Life has not a clear goal. Users of this online game are free to create their own purposes and engage in various activities. Most people use Second Life to socialize or meet friends, while others are using it as a creative tool to create stuffs, builds and then sell these stuffs to other users. There's big and prosperous economy in Second Life. The economy is based on the fact that thousands of people work as merchants, create stuffs for other users (clothes, furnitures, personalizations for the avatars) and sell these stuffs on specific websites or inside virtual stores within Second Life. There was some controversies about the use of Second Life in the media. Some journalists reported about episodes of virtual sex or violence inside this virtual world. Because of these reasons, Linden Lab ended to modify the rules of the game and decided to restrict adult/mature contents only to limited areas of Second Life. You must be a verified user to access such areas.During 2006-2007 many magazines reported about Second Life, this created a sort of uncontrolled hype, with thousands of companies investing in Second Life to create their own headquartier. Unfortunately only a few companies get some visibility and reasonable Return on Investment with their Second Life campaigns.
