Everyone who has a website has heard about search engine optimization. There's also a lot of companies that offer this service. The ongoing fight to get onto page one of Google for your chosen key phrases is their area of expertise. What often transpires, is that a customer will choose to target a keyword which has hardly demand, and then get upset when their traffic does not increase like they expected. What they apparently take a look at is the supply for that key phrase. The number which pops up underneath the Google search bar is the supply. This means that this is the quantity of pages already indexed by Google that mention the word "insurance" somewhere within their text. The web pages in the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) are ordered by their perceived significance. That is based on the number of hyperlinks associated with that particular keyword which direct to that page. The more links there are, the more ignificant the page is regarded to be by Google. Demand, on the other hand, depends on the number of times a certain keyword or search phrase is searched. The more often it is searched, the higher the demand will be and the more visitors you'll get. An increased demand often results in higher competition. The quality of competition is challenging to determine. It is influenced by a number of different factors. The first factor is the number of pages targeting or even just mentioning the key phrase, so basically, the supply. The next factor will be the average number of links that the top ranking sites have. These two encompass amount of competition. The other aspect is the quality of the links. Pages that have more hyperlinks from highly ranked website pages are viewed as being more trustworthy than a site with links from pages which have a page rank of 0. Clients often don't realise this, because they only think in the context of their particular interpretation of the phrase. A regular argument is along the lines of, "How can the competition be so high? Only five companies provide that service!" But on the web, those five companies, along with a few other people who are attempting to get more traffic to their sites, have hundreds or even thousands of pages refering to that keyword. So search engine optimization, or seo, is not as simple as it seems at first glance. You have to choose your keywords carefully and get an accurate analysis of demand, supply and competition before you can decide on a strategy to appear on the first search engine page. When done it right, the site gains the trust of search engines, you'll find yourself raked higher for keywords you didn't think of targeting and your traffic increases exponentially.
