Maintaining the perfect chemical balance and use of pool pumps, pool filters is quite essential to ensure that swimming pools are clean and healthy. Without use of right quantity of chemicals, the pool water is vulnerable ground for bacteria and harmful pollutants, which may result in causing several symptoms of illness, and algae development.

The foremost step to maintain good chemical composition and balance is to select the right chemical system that can be used in a particular pool. These pool chemicals are available in two types, one which is chlorine based and the other non ?chlorine based. Both of these types are equally effective in keeping the pool water clean and germ free. Chlorine based chemicals use chlorine that helps in killing bacteria and also keeps the water crystal clear.

For some people, chlorine based chemicals may be offensive due to its strong and pungent odor, though it is used in most swimming pools and is really effective in keeping the pool water clean and free form harmful bacteria and viruses. Non chlorine based chemicals contain a chemical known as polyhexamethylene that keeps the water clean and crystal clear. This chemical is harmless and can be used as ultimate cleaning solutions. This chemical is free from any strong odor and free of fading qualities as in chlorine based chemicals.

Usually for this reason non chlorine based chemicals are expensive than most chlorine based chemicals. The important thing to note is that these pool cleaning chemicals should not be mixed together. Individuals can choose from among these two types and use only the products that are suitable for their swimming pool. However, one may switch from either of the types to another if they want to. It is best to check with the local stores that stock pool supplies and take suggestions on how to make this switchover.

To maintain the right amount of chemical balance in the pool, one needs to know the quantity of water their swimming pools can hold. The amount of chemicals that can be added depends on the dimension of the pool. The store that sells pool supplies can suggest the right amount of chemicals that can be used for a pool of certain size. Adding too much chemicals can make the water unclear. Again if chemicals are added in lower quantities, it may not be effective to kill germs and harmful bacteria.

It is essential to add chemicals to the pool water every week or on monthly basis. There can be pollutants from cosmetics, lotions and perspiration which may accumulate in the pool water, which may act as food source for several types of harmful bacteria and algae. There are several pool cleaning machines such as pool cartridge filters and pool sand filters that also help to keep the water clean and clear.
