Termite Controlling Tips

Article Written By: emileydavid@gmail.com

Add Your Picture Termites are social insects and best known for their wood eating habit. They feed on dead plants, animals, timbers, or anything that contains cellulose. There are 2600 taxonomically known species of termites that are also known to be a good bio reactor as they can recycle anything that contains cellulose and hence helps in many natural recycling procedures

The termites originate from the ground and move towards mud tubes. They feed on wood, paper or anything containing cellulose and attack furniture, doors, fixtures, documents, clothes and even currency notes. When you see a mud tube it means millions of termites are working 24 hrs a day damaging your property and the biggest problem is that normally you cannot see them but the damages caused can be discovered too late to be controlled. So, dealing with a control is definitely better than cure.

You can also see some photos to identify them and though the termites live in the soil, they are known to infest even high rise buildings having more than 100 storeys, moving all the way from ground to the top floor.

There are some tips for control that one can use to eliminate them:

• Ensure that there are no wooden scraps and tree stumps in or near your home and its foundation, especially the stumps as they are prime locations for a termite colony and will migrate to your house the minute you start building it.

• Constantly check for cracks or breaks in your house and do not limit checks to just wooden parts they termites are known to creep into cracks in brick walls as well, before attacking the wooden portions in the rest of the home.

• Install moisture absorbers in your home as termites love wood so they also enjoy damp conditions for their breeding ground.

• Keep your home well-drained and dry through proper drainage is a major foundation for controlling them.

• Remove potential food sources from around the house like dead stumps, firewood, wood debris and paper.

• Wood can add so much to the visual aesthetics of a home, but a smart person will keep it to the minimum, so the less wood you have, the less appealing your house is to termites.

• Look for warning signs that is wings discarded from swarmer, mud tunnels, bubbled or cracked paint.

• If necessary, schedule periodic maintenance by a pest control company, especially if your home is situated in a prime region for termite damage.

• Seal nail holes and cracks in exposed wood and prevent easy access by drywood termites.

• Choose termite-resistant wood for fences or other structures that should contact soil.
