If they are connected, the water will freeze and in turn the connecting pipes and faucets inside the house can freeze and break. Before winter sets in, you can check the faucets outside your homes. If you are leaving home for longer periods, always remember to switch off the main water valve. The whole valve should be drained. The faucets should be opened at the lowest and the highest points in the house.
