We are all aware that the sun can damage our skin and cause premature aging. But did you know the same thing can happen to furniture that is exposed to the sun? Very few people realise that the sun s rays can damage most materials and surfaces including wood. The radiation in sunlight can drain out the colours from a sofa or chair. The sun is the main contributor to fade damage within a house caused to flooring, carpets, curtains and more. In fact just about anything also your furniture can be damaged when exposed for too long.So how do we protect our furniture from being damaged? Firstly think about where your furniture is placed within the house. Next to windows or placed in sunny spots throughout the house are mostly likely to be the furniture that gets damaged and loses its original colour the most. Because they are directly in the path of the suns harmful rays. To help prevent this damage there are a few things that can be carried out. Lets deal with the obvious and cheapest method first.Simply move the various items so that it is no longer in the sunlight and thus you will prolong their life. Observe how the sun shines into your home and then move the piece accordingly so that it does not fall directly inline with the suns rays. However you may like your furniture where it is or it simply can t be moved. In this case apply solar film to your windows or conservatory to help filter out the rays. Solar window film is a thin layer that is placed on the windows and helps to block the harmful ultra violet (UV) rays. Another opinion is to use blinds on the windows but these can restrict your view from your houses windows. Also a lot of the time we are not at home to close the blinds so the furniture could still get damaged on those occasions. Failing all of the above ideas you could invest in some coverings so that the sun cannot shine directly onto them.By following these simple but effective ideas you can greatly reduce the amount of damage that could potentially be done by the UV rays. This will mean that your furniture will stay in a better condition over the long run and help to keep your house looking great.
