If you think that the only thing you have to consider is the type of wood related to hardwood flooring, think again. There's a huge list of items that need to be taken into consideration to get the optimal results. Education is key and all your lessons should be taken in prior to beginning your job because you have but one shot to get it right. Of course the species of wood is always a top consideration. Even then there is a whole handful of differences and variables that can come into play.

Take oak as a prime example. Are you aware that there are over ten different types of oak flooring products to select from? For instance are you interested in a domestic or exotic imported species of oak? You need to familiarize yourself with the Wood Flooring Manufacturers Associations system of grading. It can get tricky because you may have a superior species of wood in mind but in fact a less superior or less exotic species of wood flooring of a better grade may suit your budget and your design scheme best.

Perhaps you may have seen some wood flooring and skirting that caught your eye. What you may have failed to realize is that it was the actual cut of the wood” that made it stand out. The various cuts of wood planks are determined by the positioning of the grain as the log is passed through the saw. Common words that used to describe cuts are standard, quartered, riftsawn and quartersawn.

The dimension refers to the actual thickness of hardwood flooring. There are several existing factors in your structure that can factor heavily into the dimension of the flooring that will suit your project best. For instance weak structural underpinning may call for a thicker or stiffer plank. Another thing to look at is the actual clearance at the bottoms of doors.

Of course the most common pattern that hardwood flooring is laid out in, is what is commonly refered to as a strip” or plank” style. However; of the years more intricate styles have become popular and you may in fact have one in mind. What you need to know is there are a few structural underpinning factors that come into play when determining what type of pattern can be done on your project.

The actual color of your your floor after it is finished is very important. This is why when your out shopping you need to see a sample of your final selection in its finished form”, with the exact type of finish you plan on using. Another thing to keep in mind is that there will be some color variations in all types of woods, so make it a point to check out more than just one color sample.
