If you are looking to crate an open spaced look to your home, one of the best things that you can do is remove all the unneeded barriers around the home. Often times you will find walls, doors or cabinets that separate one area of your home to another. There are a lot of older homes that have doors on each and every room in the house, as this was a way to keep the rooms that were utilized at a comfortable temperature, while not letting the cold or the warmth from the other rooms interfere. Today, however, the air and heating system are much more efficient, therefore there is no longer a need to shut down part of your home and everything can remain open. Now a days, you will find that most homeowners leave there homes open all day, without worrying about shutting part of the house down. These doors that are all around can lead to being an eye sore and may even become annoying at times. They can make a room look smaller, and take up floor and wall space while open. Over the past few years, home builders have stopped placing doors on every door or walk way, and instead they limit them to bathrooms and bedrooms, as these room often require the door to be shut.Rooms, such as your living rooms, dens, dining room and kitchen, do not require a door. The exception to this rule would be a set of French doors places in the entry way to a formal dinning room, as this make the look of the room more exquisite. Otherwise you will not want to waste the space with a door. If you decide that you would like to have doors on these areas then you may want to consider pocket doors. These doors can closed all the way, and when not needed they slide into the wall and give an appearance as if there is no door at all.The only problem with pocket doors is that they are a pain to install, especially in pre-existing structures. If you install them during the new building process, they are a breeze and are easy to install. If you do it during a remodel, you might be in for a tougher job than you bargained for.Since pocket slider doors take up a lot of space in side the wall, you need to account for the width, and ensure you have adequate space inside the wall to fully conceal your door. You do not want to much space, otherwise you will be unable to open the door, therefore it becomes a tricky process. These doors, however, are especially excellent for small bedrooms and bathroom since they save the space that you will need for other room essentials.
