Newt fencing: Safeguard for your property

Article Written By: Tracy Reeves

Add Your Picture Newt fencing is one of the convenient ways to safeguard your property from various kinds of reptiles. It is a term for a wildlife barrier used to keep newts and other kind of reptiles out or in a particular site. It can be utilized as part of a system to fence in newts surrounded by the area it confines, allowing that area to be vacant of newts so that a damaging operation can be carried out.

It can also be used in agreement with traps as a sampling method to evaluate population size. The term also has a nonspecific meaning, in that it can be used to vindicate a fence used in the same way as mentioned above, but where the species of animal included may be some other amphibian, or perhaps a reptile.

Usually a license is needed, and requires a liability for giving the guarantee that actions fulfill the license terms. To check this, skilled or qualified person, such as ecological contractors, are required. A person well versed with protected species surveys, arboriculture, ecological and environmental assessment, habitat management, tree felling and landscaping is called an ecological contractor. As it is not difficult to install newt fences, it is also easy to get it wrong; hence, you should take care while positioning those fences.

The installation techniques can vary depending on the newt fencing product being set up, the ground conditions, ecological sensitivity, site access and underground services. There are various forms of wildlife fencing that differ significantly in design depending on the species it is intended to protect. An experienced or competent person, such as an ecologist, will take the responsibility for verifying that all actions are meeting the license terms.

They will be in charge for monitoring whether the work being undertaken is fulfilling the required specifications, such as installation of a newt fence or destruction of habitat. By this means, any fencing or demolition contractors can operate under the supervision of the nominated person. Just as when a newt fence is to be disconnected, an ecologist should be on site to check the activities.

Temporary and permanent options are available. Newt fencing is usually used to control and suppress newt populations for short term and long term use. However, before fencing installation, the area must be checked for underground services. On places where permanent newt fencing is needed, it may be used in combination with more temporary forms.

The best way to optimize the speed of the trapping process is by increasing the number of traps; this done by increasing the amount of internal traps. The internal or waft fences only have to endure one or two months' exposure while the trapping process takes place. After the site is cleared of newts, the internal fencing is usually removed.
