Make the right choice of heat pump for your home

Everyone wants to be able to do their bit and cut back on carbon emissions. That is why people across the globe are looking into replacing their conventional fossil fuel burning heating systems with heat pump systems. The three categories of heat pumps are Air Source heat pumps, Water Source heat pumps and Ground Source heat pumps.

First up is the Air Source heat pump system. This heat pump system is probably the easiest and cheapest one to install into a property. Air Source heat pumps are convenient units, no bigger than small air-conditioners, that can be located inside or outside a property. The really good thing is that these units do not need any groundwork preparation to install. In simple terms the Air Source heat pump draws in the outside air, collects heat from this, and in turn uses this heat to warm your home and hot water supply. Regarding noise, Air Source heat pumps are relatively quiet and make no more noise than a home dishwasher. This type of heat pump system is more than capable of providing your property with all of the heat and hot water you require. It surprisingly can also act as an air-conditioning unit during the hotter months of the year!

The next category of heat pump is the Ground Source heat pump. As the name implies, this system collects and uses natural heat source that is located underground. Heat harvesting is achieved by digging into the ground and laying down a network of pipes. Alternatively these pipes can be lowered and sealed into a deep bore hole that can be up to 150 meters deep. Ground Source heat pump systems are capable of providing heat very efficiently due to the constant level of heat beneath the ground. You will probably have guessed that the Ground Source heat pump does not make any noise whilst in operation.

The third type of heat pump system is referred to as Water Source heat pumps. As the name implies, this heat pump system is able to provide hot water and heat to a home by tapping into the natural heat within rivers, streams and lakes. This time round loops of pipes are submerged deep below the surface of the body of water being used. This type of heat pump system is productive in harvesting heat energy within a watre source as temperatures there remain relatively constant.
